About this collection

The Rider News, the college's student newspaper, debuted as the Rider Rooster in 1926. It fulfilled student requests for a student-run paper devoted to information about campus life, academic events, and general news. The Rider Rooster was renamed the Roughrider in 1927 and then the Rider College News in 1930. In 1940 the newspaper became the Rider News and continues publishing under that name today.

Prior to 1926, there had been other student publications including Onward, the very first Rider student newspaper, which first appeared in 1914. Onward featured news about campus events, student stories and poems, and information on the whereabouts of former graduates.

The online collection of the Rider News begins with the first issue of the Rider Rooster published on November 10, 1926.  Digitized issues for 1926-1929 have been combined under their respective titles. Beginning with the 1930 Rider College News, issues are combined by month. Early issues were published inconsistently, with varying numbers of issues being produced each month and with some months having no issues published.

Additional years of the Rider News continue to be digitized and added to the online collection. Rider News issues from 2006 on can be found at the Rider News website, http://www.ridernews.com/
